Horticultural Specialist

**Overview:** The Smithsonian Institution is seeking a Horticultural Specialist to join the Grounds Management Operations (GMO) team in Smithsonian Gardens (SG). As a part of a professional team, you will be responsible for ensuring the high-quality maintenance and care of horticultural exhibits within Smithsonian Gardens. **Responsibilities:** • Assist in the establishment of procedures for landscape management, including pruning, watering, weeding, planting, fertilizing, cleaning, mulching, pest control, and equipment operation. * Perform various tasks involved in the grading and seeding of lawns and/or planting beds using hand tools. * Prepare, seed, plant, and transplant plants by adding amendments, cultivating, and grading using knowledge of correct conditions to encourage germination and growth. * Inspect all walkways, hardscaping, and signage daily and clear debris using a power blower, pressure washer, brushes, rags, or other equipment. **Qualifications:** • At least one (1) year of experience in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field. * Must possess a valid driver's license. * Must obtain registered applicator status with the District of Columbia to apply pesticides within 60 days of appointment. **Benefits:** • A comprehensive benefits package, including vacation and sick leave, holidays, health/life insurance, accident insurance, and excellent retirement program options. * Flexible Spending Accounts, Health Insurance, Leave, Life Insurance, Long Term Care Insurance, and Retirement Program options. * Eligibility for benefits depends on the type of position you hold and whether your position is full-time, part-time, or intermittent.
