Barn Hand/Manager

About Us Palmetto Carriage Works is Charleston's oldest carriage company, family-owned and operated since 1972. We take pride in caring for our horses and mules, maintaining a safe and positive work environment, and providing guests with the best carriage experience in Charleston. Our barns and teams are the heart of the company, and we are looking for a dedicated Barn Hand who is motivated to grow into a leadership role. Responsibilities • Daily care of horses and mules, including feeding, watering, grooming, and cleaning stalls • Monitor animal health and well-being; report concerns promptly • General barn upkeep: sweeping, mucking, organizing equipment, keeping a clean and safe work environment • Assist with harnessing, hitching, and preparing animals for tours • Support other staff as needed in barn and farm operations • Work morning and evening shifts as scheduled, including weekends and holidays • Learn company procedures with the opportunity to step into management responsibilities, such as scheduling, supervising barn staff, and training new hires What We're Looking For • Experience with horses, livestock, or farm work preferred, but not required (we will train the right person) • Strong work ethic and reliability – this is a hands-on, physical job • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions • Comfortable with early mornings and evening shifts • Interest in taking on responsibility and leadership over time Why Join Our Team? • Opportunity for advancement into barn management with performance and commitment • Work with a supportive, family-owned business that's been part of Charleston for over 50 years • Be part of a team that values animal care, tradition, and community • Consistent, year-round work (not seasonal) Pay & Benefits • $18–$25 per hour, based on experience • Full-time employees eligible for benefits (details provided during interview) • Opportunities for growth, responsibility, and advancement Job Types: Full-time, Part-time Pay: $ $25.00 per hour Benefits: • Flexible schedule • Paid time off Ability to Commute: • Charleston, SC Preferred) Ability to Relocate: • Charleston, SC 29401: Relocate before starting work (Preferred) Work Location: In person
