Description ASSISTANT GROWER Full-Time | Onsite: Okanagan Falls, BC | Accommodation Available At Avery Family Farms, we grow more than produce, we nourish communities with fresh, sustainable, Canadian-grown food. As we continue to evolve, we're looking for an Assistant Grower to support our Head Grower and Farming Operations team. This is a full-time, on-site role based at our Okanagan Falls vertical farming facility. What You'll Do Work under the direction of the Head Grower to support daily cultivation operations, plant health monitoring, and execution of Avery's growing plans. Crop Production & Monitoring • Assist in daily crop monitoring across seedling and grow rooms. • Assist the Head Grower in compiling data for crop reports and continuous improvement initiatives. Hydroponic & Environmental Systems • Support operation and monitoring of hydroponic systems, fertigation lines, and irrigation equipment. • Check and calibrate agricultural instruments including PPFD meters, pH/EC pens, thermometers, and anemometers. • Assist with review and adjustment of environmental control settings under the Head Grower's direction. Cultivation Execution & Planning • Collaborate closely with the cultivation team to ensure timely execution of grow plans and production schedules. • Follow Avery's cultivation standards and best practices under the direction of the Head Grower to support consistent, high-quality production. Compliance, SOPs & Food Safety • Work in alignment with Avery's food safety program and CanadaGAP requirements. • Follow and maintain cultivation-related SOPs in compliance with Health Canada regulations and internal policies. • Assist with sanitation checks and collaborate with QA to maintain safe, clean, and compliant grow environments. Collaboration & Communication • Work closely with the Head Grower to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. • Share observations, updates, and data clearly and professionally - both verbally and in writing. • Support Head Grower in the training of farming operations staff in plant health, hygiene, and quality monitoring best practices to ensure consistent crop performance. What We're Looking For Education & Technical Background • BSc in Plant Science, Agricultural Sciences, Plant Biology, Plant Pathology, or a related discipline OR equivalent hands-on experience. • Demonstrated understanding of plant health, physiology, nutrient uptake, and hydroponic cultivation. • Experience working in hydroponic, greenhouse, or controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) preferred. • Competent with digital tools, including Microsoft Office and basic data entry/analysis. • Comfortable using agricultural instruments such as PPFD meters, pH/EC pens, thermometers, and anemometers. • Able to work with environmental controls, irrigation equipment, and fertigation systems. Role Details • Start Date: As soon as available • Schedule: Full-time (32 to 40 hours per week), onsite • Compensation: $23 to $25 per hour (based on experience) • Accommodation: Access to Avery-subsidized housing is available near the farm for the duration of employment at a cost of $1,000 per month.
